Gingerbread men army

This winter I’ve been in the kitchen baking cookies and cakes more than ever I think. I like getting something ready to eat for a special occasion or to make someone happier. My special gifts for this Christmas holidays have been Gingerbread men.

Questo inverno credo di aver passato in cucina più tempo del solito infornando torte e biscotti. Mi piace preparare qualcosa di buono per un’occasione speciale o per rendere qualcuno un po’ più felice. I miei speciali regali di Natale per queste feste sono stati gli omini di pan di zenzero.

I took my idea from here. I also used her recipe (you’ll find it in the same post following the link) and I found it perfect.

L’idea l’ho presa qui. Ho usato anche la sua ricetta (la trovate nello stesso post seguendo il link) ed è stata perfetta.

My work was not completed until I made the icing to give a face to my men and put some clothes on them ;) It took me long to get all this army ready, I must say…but finally I was very satisfied! Then I put some men inside each bag and decorated it with just some red paper and a ribbon.

Il mio lavoro non si è completato fino a quando non ho preparato la glassa per dare ai miei omini un volto e anche un vestito ;) Mi ci è voluto un po’ di tempo devo dire per decorare il mio esercito…ma alla fine sono stata pienamente soddisfatta del risultato! Infine ho messo alcuni omini in ogni busta e l’ho decorata con della carta rossa e un nastro.

As you can guess, my little men have been appreciated especially by children…try and make them for your kids and you will achieve resounding success!

Come immaginerete, i miei omini sono stati apprezzati soprattutto dai più piccoli…provate a prepararli per i vostri bambini e vedrete che farete un successone!

Cambiamenti

Poco più di due anni fa decidevo di prendere una parte dei miei risparmi ed utilizzarla per acquistare un volo che mi avrebbe portato dalla parte opposta dell’Italia per un weekend. Questo breve soggiorno mi avrebbe permesso di incontrare 3 donne portandomi ad intraprendere con loro un cammino di cui si erano giù gettate le basi nel web tramite il blog della sua ideatrice e che da lì ad un anno sarebbe sfociato nella pubblicazione di un libro che raccoglieva 23 schemi per la maglia e l’uncinetto il cui intero ricavato delle vendite viene destinato alla lotta contro il cancro.
Nell’anno successivo non ci siamo fermate e abbiamo continuato a raccogliere schemi, ad andare in giro per l’Italia e l’Europa a presentare il nostro libro e a farlo conoscere il più possibile, a tradurre in altre lingue gli schemi e a testarli, in un continuo fermento e ricevendo costante collaborazione e supporto dalle volontarie appassionate di maglia e uncinetto.
Questo nostro team si è sviluppato essenzialmente via web visto che ci troviamo tutte in punti opposti della penisola e richiede tempo e sacrificio. E’ un progetto in cui ho sempre creduto ma purtroppo da qualche settimana mi ritrovo a non avere più il tempo da dedicarvi in modo costante per la sua gestione. Una mia caratteristica è sempre stata quella di fare le cose con una certa pignoleria, ho bisogno di avere tutto sotto controllo, di rispettare le scadenze e di non lasciarmi troppo lavoro in arretrato. In questo momento della mia vita non riesco a soddisfare questi requisiti fondamentali perché altre strade mi si sono aperte e a malincuore devo dunque abbandonare questa bella esperienza conservando nel mio cuore come un ricordo bellissimo. Anche se non potrò attivamente e costantemente prendere parte al progetto di Unite contro il cancro continuerò a sostenerlo e a dare il mio contributo in tutti i modi possibili augurando a chi continua di proseguire sempre meglio in questa magnifica iniziativa.

About two years ago I made the decision to use some of my savings to get a flight and spend a weekend on the opposite side of the Country. This short journey let me meet three women bringing me to get in a path , that had already started thanks to its creator on her blog, and it ended, after a year, with the publishing of 23 knitting and crochet patterns gathered in a book to raise funds for cancer research. The following year we didn’t stop. We carried on collecting patterns, going around Italy and Europe to let people know about our book, translating patterns in English and other languages and testing them, receiving a lot of help and support by knitters and crocheters (all volunteers).
Our team has developed above all on the web, since we live at the opposite sides of Italy and needs time and sacrifice. It’s a project I’ve always believed in but for some weeks I haven’t got enough time as needed to work on it constantly. I’ve always be fussy, always needed to have everything under control avoiding huge backlogs of work to get through, always finished my duties on time. Right now I’m not able to satisfy these requirements so, albeit reluctantly, I have to leave this wonderful experience keeping in my heart and mind all the touching moments it has given to me. Although I won’t be able to actively and constantly contribute, I will continue supporting Unite contro il cancro project, wishing to the ones who will carry on working on it daily to go on better and better.

Dicembre

Did you expect snow and wool from this title?
Sorry but winter has just come here…I put my coat for the second time yesterday from the beginning of autumn, finally I may say!
I pined to wear cowls, gloves, hats…ok I’m mad. And I don’t care.

Vi aspettavate neve e lana da questo titolo?
Scusate ma l’inverno è appena arrivato qui…ho messo il cappotto per la seconda volta ieri da quando è iniziato l’autunno, finalmente vorrei dire!
Ho desiderato tanto indossare colli, guanti, cappelli…ok sono pazza. E non mi interessa.

Un paio di settimane fa ho fatto queste foto, questo è il ultimo lavoro “estivo”: Hew.

The original pattern stated to leave very short sleeves, I knitted three quarters ones, because in Sicily the summer is too hot to put cotton-knitted shrugs on, even in the evenings. So I’m wearing it in the mid-seasons.

Lo schema originale prevedeva che si lasciassero le maniche molto corte. Io le ho lavorate fino a sotto il gomito perché in Sicilia c’è troppo caldo in estate per indossare dei coprispalle lavorati a maglia, perfino la sera. In questo modo è adatto alle mezze stagioni.

I bought this yarn when I used to live in Woking. I fell in love with it: it’s denim by Rowan, soft and very nice. I had just 6 little balls and couldn’t find the right project for it but now here it is. Definitively the right choice.

Ho comprato questo filato quando vivevo a Woking. Me ne sono innamorata: è un denim della Rowan, morbido e molto bello.. Avevo appena 6 gomitoletti e non riuscivo a trovare il progetto adatto ma adesso eccolo qua. Davvero la scelta giusta.

I like the stitches chosen for the sleeves and the neckline pattern. I used the i-cord bind off (mad about it!) for the sleeves. I love the result: a perfect shrug to be worn in september october or may around here on a dress or top.
And from now onwards…wool!

Mi piace il motivo usato per i punti delle maniche e del collo. Ho scelto di chiudere il lavoro nelle maniche con il metodo i-cord (che adoro!). Soddisfatta dell’effetto finale: un coprispalle perfetto da indossare a settembre ottobre o maggio da queste parti su un vestito o un top.
E adesso...lana!

I have always liked more buying presents than receiving them.

Ho sempre amato Ysolda e la sua cura per i particolari, l’eleganza delle forme definite nei suoi schemi. E come me la ama anche la mia amica Tzugumi. E come non restare incantate dalla semplice raffinatezza con cui elabora i suoi progetti?

Questa designer si è più volte cimentata in pupazzi e finalmente ho trovato l’occasione per provarne uno. Mi piaceva l’idea di poterlo personalizzare come ho visto nella galleria dei progetti su ravelry così ho scelto Elijah e gli ho fatto indossare una maglia col nome del piccolo e adorabile Simone.

This designer has made different softies successfully and this time I found the occasion to try one of them. I liked the possibility to customize it as I had a look at ravelry projects. So I chose Elijah  and I made him wear a sweater with my loving little Simone’s name on it.

Fra le scelte per la realizzazione di questo elefantino che più ho apprezzato ci sono state il motivo per la chiusura delle zampe e la “girandola” dietro la testa ma anche la tecnica dei ferri accorciati per creare le orecchie. Ovviamente le spiegazioni sono chiarissime e corredate da immagini illustrative. Il pupazzetto è realizzato in un pezzo unico senza cuciture in modo veramente sapiente.

Among her solutions I appreciate most to make this little elephant there are the pattern to end the legs and the “whirl” at the back of his head, and also the short rows technique used to knit the ears. Of course, the easy-to-follow instructions are given together with clarifying pictures. The animal is knitted seamless and masterly.

Le Kokeshi sono delle bambole giapponesi tradizionali diventate così famose, anche nelle loro varianti ed evoluzioni, da aver ispirato in Russia per la loro forma (senza braccia né gambe) la struttura delle forse più note Matrioske.

Kokeshi are traditional japanese dolls that have become so famous, also in their versions and changes, to be used as a model in Russia, because of their shape (without arms and legs), for the structure of the maybe better known Matrioskas.

Sono molto soddisfatta di essere riuscita a realizzarla perché con l’uncinetto non sono poi così brava…non avevo fatto niente ancora! Ma il merito credo sia anche della designer che ha scritto le spiegazioni in modo veramente chiaro e semplice.

I’m very satisfied, I couldn’t believe I was able to crochet it because I’m not so good at working with the hook but I did it! Thanks to the designer who wrote an easy pattern with clear explainations…for everyone.
