C’è chi fa il cappello della domenica come rito catartico e chi, in preda ad un raptus da cosa mi metto in testa se vado di fretta e ho poco tempo per lavarmi i capelli, fa la fascia del mercoledì pomeriggio…

La casa che vorrei – Parquet?

Mi sto chiedendo se questa rubrica ha fatto storcere il naso alle mie amiche knitters e crafters in genere perché non parla di creazioni vere e proprie. Eppure decorare la casa secondo me è una grandissima forma d’arte, quindi per ora procedo così :)

I am wondering if this monday column has stuck up my knitters/crafters friends’ nose because it’s not about “real” creations. However, I consider home decoration a great art expression, so I’ll go on this way :)

I lavori in corso vanno avanti alla grande: per quanto riguarda la mansarda, la settimana prossima potremmo avere la scala pronta (non vi anticipo nulla, ma ci sarà il bianco!) e iniziare ad ammattonare.
La mia idea generale è quella di creare un’atmosfera luminosa con la predominanza del legno. Il miglior modo per fare ciò sarebbe usare il parquet per il pavimento. Tuttavia, la mia esperienza col parquet non è stata delle migliori nel mio appartamento in Inghilterra. Potrei dire che non è molto agevole pulirlo e, soprattutto, chiazze di acqua o altro potrebbero provocare danni infiltrandosi nello stesso parquet (il pavimento della caffetteria dove ho lavorato per un po’ era davvero ridotto in condizioni orribili!).
Cercando qualche alternativa, mi sono imbattuta nel gres porcellanato che, in alcuni casi, riesce a riprodurre perfettamente l’effetto legno. I miei lo hanno appena usato in una variante più scura di quella che ho in mente io per un ambiente del loro nuovo appartamento e ad un primo sguardo non sembra per niente male.

Work in progress carry on perfectly: as regards the mansard, next week we might have the stairway ready (I am not going to say anything, but there will be white!) and start bricking.
My general idea is to create a wooden and bright atmosphere. The perfect way to do it would be the parquet on the floor. Nevertheless, my experience with parquet has been not wonderful in my flat in England. I may say that it is not very easy to clean and, above all, water spots can cause damages leaking in it (the floor at the coffee shop where I worked for a while was awful!).
Looking for some alternatives, I have found a porcelain stoneware reproducing wood effect perfectly. My parents have just used a darker version in a room of their new flat and it looks quite nice.

Di fiori e paturnie

Comincio con le paturnie. Perché mi va così, perché questi sono stati giorni un po’ difficili per me, giorni di scelte dure, ponderate, sofferte per la mia vita e il mio futuro. Giorni di amare consapevolezze. E giorni anche di straordinarie conferme.
Io sono una gran chiacchierona e soprattutto non ho peli sulla lingua. Sono spigolosa, qualcuno direbbe. E a chi non va bene questo mio aspetto del  carattere, imprescindibile, ineliminabile, gira i tacchi e se ne va. Ma quelli che contano restano e mi stanno così vicini, sempre. E mi riempiono il cuore di gioia. Ho ricevuto tanti bei messaggi da parte di vecchi amici ma anche nuovi.
Oggi sono felice per queste piccole cose, per dei gesti semplici ma così intensi e significativi. E’ il caso di dire dopo il buio il sereno :)

E quindi… Fiori!

I’ll start with my blues. Because it’s how I’m feeling, because these days have been hard for me, days of difficult, meditated choices for my life and my future. Days of bitter awareness. And days of wonderful confirmation.
I am a chatterbox and above all I always speak my mind. I am touchy sometimes, someone would say. And those who don’t like this inescapable, unavoidable aspect, go away. But those who really matter to me, they stay. And they are always around me, near me. And they fill my heart with joy. I have received lots of nice messages from old and new friends.
Today I am happy for these little things, for these simple but strong and meaningful gestures. We might say calm after dark :)

La casa che vorrei – L’ingresso fra porte e cancelletti

Before we come in, I want to lead you among some pictures showing the entrance.
We have to say, this is the very first welcome we give to our guests, so it is important for it to be homely and cosy.
It doesn’t matter if we have a garden or just the street outside, it is easy in many different ways to create a welcoming atmosphere!

Prima di entrare dentro, voglio condurvi fra alcune foto che mostrano l’ingresso di una abitazione.
Dobbiamo dirlo, è il primo vero benvenuto che diamo ai nostri ospiti, per cui è davvero importante che esso sia confortevole e familiare.
Non importa se abbiamo un giardino o semplicemente la strada all’esterno, è comunque facile creare un’atmosfera accogliente in molti modi diversi!

Lady Hat

For a woman who wants to be fashionable.
Joking apart, this wonder (not thanks to me but to the great designer) is a gift for a discerning customer. My mom!
She desidered a slouch, a fluffy hat, brown but not too brown…
My choice has been this nice yarn (skot lalana cialtrone) and I am very satisfied with the result!

Per una donna che vuole essere fèscion.
Scherzi a parte, questa meraviglia (non per mio merito ma per quello di questa grande designer) è un regalo per una cliente molto esigente. Mia madre!
Desiderava un cappello che fosse morbido, marrone ma non troppo marrone…
La mia scelta è ricaduta su questo delizioso filato (skot lalana cialtrone) e sono veramente soddisfatta del risultato!

Obviously, a cable makes the hat glamorous, you already know what I think about it!

Ovviamente, una treccia rende il berretto più affascinante, sapete già come la penso in proposito!

I had some trouble with making the bill stiff (the designer suggested a fusible but mine didn’t work very well). I found a solution thanks to her: I used a piece of plastic coated placemat to make the bill stiffer! 

Ho avuto qualche problema per rendere la visiera rigida (la designer suggeriva di usare quel tipo di materiale termofusibile usato ad esempio per i colletti ma con me non ha funzionato molto bene). Ho trovato una soluzione grazie a lei: ho usato una sagoma ritagliata da una tovaglietta plastificata per rendere la visiera più rigida! 

La casa che vorrei – Fairy tale

Questo weekend non sono stata molto bene. Ciò significa che – insolitamente - ho passato un po’ del mio tempo a guardare la tv sul divano.
Che film?lasciando perdere le repliche di Sex & The City, Grey’s Anatomy e Desperate Housewives, ho avuto una strana (psicopatica?) assuefazione a film fantastici e fiabeschi che mi hanno fatto sentire un po’ bambina :-O  (fornirò dettagli solo a coloro che ne faranno coraggiosamente esplicita richiesta)
Quindi, date la colpa alla mia malattia se oggi avrete a che fare con queste case da fiaba!

This weekend I have been sick. It means I – unusually - spent some time watching tv on the sofa.
Which movies? without focusing on Sex & The City, Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives reruns, I have had a weird (psychopathic?) addiction to fairy movies that made me feel like a child again :-O  (I will give details only to those who make a request…bravely)
So, put the blame only on my sickness if you have to deal with this fairy buildings today!
